TODDLER'S PARK

>

Coimbatore, India

Toddler's Park is a research project dedicated to reimagining
urban streets as safe, vibrant, and educational spaces for
children and families in the city of Coimbatore.

Study:

Child-Centric Urbanism

Focus:

Inclusive Public Spaces / Street Safety

Team:

Keshava Narayan, Nagendra Kumar, Roshani Kumari

Scope:

Our scope focuses on the audit and redesign of specific urban corridors in Coimbatore. We are designing tactical urbanism interventions—such as curb extensions, play-pavements, and safe crossings—to prioritize child mobility over vehicle traffic.

Challenges:

The primary challenge is balancing multi-modal transit requirements with child safety. We conducted intensive site observations and community surveys to identify peak-hour risks and develop design solutions that mitigate vehicle speed while retaining accessibility.

Innovation:

We are using "play-mapping" technology to analyze how children interact with varying urban textures and features. This data allows us to design streets that aren't just transit routes, but active learning environments that stimulate cognitive development.
